The Blog critique.

I chose to review the blog named the Blaze http://www.theblaze.com/stories/. It’s listed number 14 on the Technorati.com. It touches on a lot of topics from politics to culture and crime. I would say it’s more of a news blog because it comments on a lot of top stories that occur nationally and worldwide. The blog is somewhat factual. It uses Associated Press a lot as the source of its stories, which, in my opinion, is a pretty reliable source but at the same time there are stories that hardly have any attribution. Especially big national stories a lot of times lack any mentioning of where they got their information from. Along side the big stories the blog talks about local domestic stories that would stand out for one reason or another. Like, for example, a story about a boy who got suspended for disarming a gunman on a school bus or a law change in a certain state. Those stories usually just refer to only one source, which is usually a local TV station for that story. I personally find this lack of attribution risky and not very professional because in order to make sure that the story is correct, I believe, a person publishing it should verify it with several sources. And when it comes to the big national stories not having any mentioning of the source of the information makes it look like a rumor.

This blog is a big media source because it’s has its own TV programs, Blaze radio and a magazine. The general tone of the information delivery is sarcasm. If to compare it to the official manner of news delivery the Blaze allows itself to throw in a joke or a sarcastic remark. For example, the Joe Biden story.

Overall the blog is fair. Though it carries its own agenda, it manages to present the information correctly and clearly, if to verify its stories with the biggest media sources like CNN and NBC. The difference is that the Blaze chooses what it wants to report on or talk about. It might include certain big national stories and omit the others. Instead it would talk about a local event somewhere. Just like any person it has its own interests, likes and dislikes and the Blaze simply chooses not to talk about the topics that are not included in its interests.
